THIS IS FRIENDSGIVING

Thanksgiving. What a time! There’s something so great about having a holiday centered around spending time with family and friends. Not to mention eating as much great food as you can. Everyone gathers around the table set with the fancy dishes you only dust off twice a year. The whole lineup is there—cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes...and then there’s the crown jewel of it all. A golden-brown turkey. No matter what your age, on some level, we all dream about that table the rest of the year.

But sometimes getting to that table isn’t so easy. Even before the world of Covid, there can be hurdles in your way of getting to the great feast. Maybe you’re off at college and traveling before finals just isn’t the best idea. Or maybe your destination is not an easy drive away. (Anyone who’s experienced an unexpected snowstorm can relate.) Or perhaps the celebration is a flight away, and we all know how the airports are during the holidays. For all those Thanksgiving hurdles, we still want the feeling of togetherness (and food, did we mention the food?) that comes with the holiday. Enter Friendsgiving.

Gathering with our second families for Friendsgiving is all about your group’s ideal holiday celebration. Maybe you’ll opt for a traditional potluck. Maybe you’re ordering Chinese food. As long as there’s food, wine, and good friends, you can’t go wrong. Unless you don’t know what to wear. Remember, this is supposed to be the less stressful celebration, the one where your aunt can’t corner you about when you’re getting married. But knowing how to toe the line between your old sweatshirt and being too overdressed can be hard. Here are some ideas on how to be casual and fly at the same time.

Jamie body type (shown left), is going with a Primitive t-shirt and a denim jacket from Cotton On. Perfectly casual yet put together.

Shelly body type, has a top with what we have deemed the perfect fly-to-casual ratio. The soft corset silhouette of this Anthropologie top gives definition to her waist while the puff sleeve adds interest from the waist up—ideal for not getting hidden behind a 20-pound turkey. This top also has a lace-up back which is an emerging trend that stands out from the sweatshirts of 2020.

Roy body type, is rocking the most casual of sweaters from Urban Outfiters. It says, “I care enough to wear a sweater, but it has to show off my fun personality, too.”

Another Roy, went with a can’t miss look. A simple black oxford woven can be casual and dressy at the same time and can be worn anywhere. .

Carrie body type, is wearing an Anthropologie embroidered bobble cardigan that is the perfect mix of cozy and cute. (That’s exactly why we love statement and novelty sweaters!) The texture of this sweater makes a statement while the shape highlights her upper body. This satin cowl-neck tank from Revolve underneath takes the look to a festive place.
